 · You Gotta Move is an excellent track compilation of Mississippi Fred McDowells best-known work, spotlighting his Mississippi Delta slide guitar virtuosity, as well as his superior songwriting skills; perhaps most familiar to many listeners is the title track, which inspired a Rolling Stones cover version on the group's classic Sticky Fingers album.

And, of course, "You Gotta Move." Some great lines, such as: "You may be high, you may be low, You may be rich, you may be poor. But when the Lord gets ready, You gotta move." The Stones covered this on "Sticky Fingers." It was rather lame, to be honest. However, they also played this on one of their live concert albums and that version was worthy of Mississippi Fred McDowell/5(17).

  3. Although Mississippi Fred McDowell (–) had been playing his Mississippi River Delta blues since the s, it wasn’t until he was recorded by Chris Strachwitz for Arhoolie Records in that he was “discovered.” Wearing a bottleneck on his finger, McDowell simultaneously played the rhythm.
